Softwoods

During the 1970‘s and 80‘s we built a huge amount of Pine furniture. Today, while we still use a fair bit of pine, and other softwoods, probably 60-70% of our work is in hardwoods. We like softwoods as they are easily worked by hand and provide exceptional bases particularly for Milk Painted and character finish pieces.  Typical softwoods we use are Clear Pine and BC Fir, though we often use Poplar for regular paint grade work.  Yes, Poplar is a hardwood, but we’ve included it here because it is so soft and it takes paints so well..  For a more rustic look we can use knotty pine as well.  See Reclaimed Woods as well, as they are often softwoods.
