Furniture Refinishing
While many pieces often need more extensive work including repairs, sometimes refinishing is all that is required. Refinishing may include stripping the old finish and replacing the same, as in French polish or lacquers. Other times the finish needs to be changed to suit a new location or use. Sadly today, there are very few fine restoration shops, and fewer still which can work at our level. The most common request we deal with is refinishing. Some clients just want to update the colour of their furniture, others want to make their old piece look new again. Today’s finishes can last for 30-50 years, but frequent heavy use causes damage to both the finish and the wood. Older finishes were inherently weaker, and as they have aged they have lost their resilience and start to fail. In some cases, the old weakened finishes craze and crack, or became tacky from finger oils. Of course, there is also the infamous pizza box splotching, plus common candle burns. We offer complete hand stripping and refinishing services to deal with all of these issues and more. This service can only done in our shop, but we offer pick and delivery.
